Decca & London Phase 4 Stereo Records are not Quadraphonic or 4 Channel
Released Recordings
that are NOT Quadraphonic
1-24-2019 VERSION 1.3

   This is a list of recordings that were thought to be quad but are not.
Some of the titles were actually issued with a quadraphonic notation on
the cover either to create additional marketing potential or simply by
error like in the case of some Angel classical titles. Others were just
recordings synthesized from mono or stereo sources. Some were
advertised as being quad by record sellers and items that have the number
4 in it, where it is assumed that it is a quadraphonic 4 channel recording.
Other titles are misprints including using a Q8 shell and sometimes a label
with 2 tracks instead of four.
Through listening tests and other methods or by contacting folks
involved with the engineering these titles have been determined not to
quadraphonic.
  Hopefully this list will put an end to the rumors and help new collectors
know that phase 4 stereo is not Quadraphonic. I hope that it save's someone the time
and money of acquiring titles that they thought were quad but are not.

  For titles that are rumored to exist, refer to the RUMORS discography.

  For titles that were issued a catalog number or a test pressing was made
but were not released to the public, refer to the NEVER ISSUED discography.

    For additions to this list, include:
    1. Artist
    2. Title of album
    3. Record label
    4. Catalog number
    5. Quadraphonic format (QS, SQ, CD4, UMX)
    6. Format - LP (vinyl), Q8 (Quad 8-track), QR (Quad Reel to Reel)
         since catalog numbers change w/format
    7. Add a D in front of the tape format code listed above if Dolby
         was used on the tape.
    8. Country of origin (U.S., U.K., Finland, etc.) since catalog
       numbers change with country of origin
    9.  Year of release
    10. Any comments that might be helpful like who distributes the
       recording and address and phone number if known.

King NAS-606 [Japan] {LP that is not quad} SLY & THE FAMILY STONE High On You. {The cover definitely looked like a reissue and does have SQ indicators on the front. Back cover??? This one is tricky because there is no bar code on the back cover. I didn't note the number used on the spine. Since it was sealed, I couldn't look at the label and I couldn't listen to it. All three reissues appear to be US issues. I have not really heard if all these reissues that came out were counterfeits or not. I've seen these reissue for many labels so it wasn't just one company that did reissues.} CAT STEVENS - The Hoaxer's Midnight Dream. Amazing Kornyfone TARKL 1904 (QS) {The Hoaxers Midnight Dream was made from the ABC In Concert Moon & Star Concert that was simulcast in stereo in 7 markets (LA, Chicago, NYC, SF, Houston, Pittsburgh and Detroit). The LA broadcast was on KLOS and The DJ mentions Quad at the end of the show. All advertisements in all markets mention stereo. Billboard magazine reported on Nov. 3, 1973 that during quad broadcast tryouts that "KLOS used a QS encoder and ran all their programming through the encoder". It appears that the stereo simulcast was synthesized for quad and not actually from a four channel mix and this title is not actually quadraphonic}

Blue Sky PZQ 33292 {This one says SQ quad on the front and back and the number on the spine is PZQ 33292. The only giveaway is the bar code on the back. The label is a typical Blue Sky label with PZ 33292 Stereo.}
