1-24-2019 VERSION 1.3 |
This is a list of recordings that were thought to be quad but are not. Some of the titles were actually issued with a quadraphonic notation on the cover either to create additional marketing potential or simply by error like in the case of some Angel classical titles. Others were just recordings synthesized from mono or stereo sources. Some were advertised as being quad by record sellers and items that have the number 4 in it, where it is assumed that it is a quadraphonic 4 channel recording. Other titles are misprints including using a Q8 shell and sometimes a label with 2 tracks instead of four. Through listening tests and other methods or by contacting folks involved with the engineering these titles have been determined not to quadraphonic. Hopefully this list will put an end to the rumors and help new collectors know that phase 4 stereo is not Quadraphonic. I hope that it save's someone the time and money of acquiring titles that they thought were quad but are not. For titles that are rumored to exist, refer to the RUMORS discography. For titles that were issued a catalog number or a test pressing was made but were not released to the public, refer to the NEVER ISSUED discography.
